AddnAide Featured in ASA Generations Journal

AddnAide is the subject of a feature article in the Winter 2025-26 issue of Generations, the journal of the American Society on Aging. The piece, written by Paula Reichle Smith, traces how Council on Aging of Southwestern Ohio responded to a workforce crisis that left more than 2,200 individuals without a matched home care worker by September 2022.
The article details how COA and its subsidiary home52 built AddnAide to expand access to self-directed care, a model that allows clients to hire and manage their own caregivers. It covers the app’s development, the barriers COA had to address (including limited social networks, employer responsibilities, and payroll complexity), and how AddnAide uses a gig-economy-inspired approach to grow the pool of available care providers.
The article appears in the journal’s issue on “Health and Home: The Role of Medicaid and Managed Care in HCBS and LTSS.”
